Less than a week to go

Yes that’s right…this Saturday we’ll all be heading off from Whiterock to Harrison for the easy first day towards Jasper.  Can’t wait!  At any readers of this blog will then be able to get road reports rather than the the more sporadic random ramblings that I put on here.

So here is the status update for now:

Bike:  I’m now equipped with a new helmet, new sunglasses, new attire in the form of the gearup4cf colours and about to be fitted with a new saddle – saddle and shorts being very important to a cyclist!  There is a considerable amount of commentary about the impact of bad sadles on blood flow in the lower parts of the body, so one must have an appropriate saddle!!  I also have a collection of spares (including 4 spare spokes) and this year a tool box to take with me so that I can do my own minor repairs and maintenance.

Training:  I feel pretty ready. Perhaps this is somewhat misguided.  Last year I cycled a lot more than I did this year in preparation.  The main reason that hasn’t happened has been the appalling weather we’ve had.  However this year I have made a deliberate desicion to train much more on the mountains.  Last year I cycled up Cypress one and a bit times.  This year it has been something like 6 or 7 and apart from one on the middle it felt easier each time.  I have also put in considerable mileage on those rides, to compensate for the lack of mileage in the week.

Fundraising:  The great news is that so far it is in the region of $7,500 and I am expecting it to go to well over $8,000.  If you are reading this and haven’t sponsored me yet then may I suggest you do so without delay!   http://www.gearup4cf.org/The-Riders/2008-Riders/James-Zlosnik.html  click on sponsor this rider.

Well that is pretty much it.  Through pre-event training rides I have met many of the local riders already.  Friday evening will bring the pre-ride social event to meet everyone else.  Then Saturday it is another early morning Whiterock departure…and guess what?  Rain is predicted – again!   Here we go again…

  1. Hey James,

You’re likely too busy riding to be reading email, but just in case…

Nathan and I were so glad that we went to see you off on Saturday morning. It was great to see you and the rest of the riders as you prepared to head out on your incredible journey.

Alex and Ted arrive home today and I will give Alex the Ride Jersey that you got for him. He will be thrilled!

Thanks for all you are doing to help us FIGHT CF…research, awareness, funds and caring!!!

    Have a safe ride…

    Clare S.
